About me

Hi, I’m Kate – a material engineer by day, Zumba teacher by night, and the hands (and heart!) behind KG Handmade.

I live in vibrant Bristol with my family and our lovable Labrador, Ludo, who’s never far from my yarn stash.

Crochet found me during lockdown – a time when I needed a little calm and colour. What started with a simple face scrubby quickly became a full-blown love affair with sustainable crochet. As someone who’s always cared about reducing waste, working with recycled yarns felt like a natural fit.

Now I spend my time turning tangled yarn into joyful, practical creations – from bumbags to lacy scarves – all with a pinch of personality and a whole lot of purpose.

KG HANDMADE was established in 2020, born out of a desire to create eco friendly crochet bath accessories, starting with reusable facial scrubbies. The business took an unexpected turn when a lively puppy joined the picture, inspiring the creation of the signature bumbag. This hands-free essential has become a constant companion on dog walks, shopping excursions, and travels. Crossbody crochet bags have been my most popular items since.

The journey continued as I sought comfort in the craft of crochet, transitioning from working with thick cords to exploring the delicate beauty of very fine cotton. This shift led to the creation of triangular shawls and scarves, adding a touch of elegance to my repertoire. 

Sharing my passion on Instagram connected me with a community of followers, inspiring me to take the next step by showcasing and selling my handmade crochet items at markets and craft shows.  

As the KG HANDMADE community grows, I envision expanding into workshops, encouraging others to step away from their phones and immerse themselves in the joy of crafting their own crochet items. The journey has just begun, and there's much more to learn, discover, and share in the wonderful world of handmade creations.
